There are plenty of ways you can lower the cost of your car insurance, but, perhaps, none can have quite as dramatic an effect as getting telematics. The ‘insurer’s black box’ is a great way of proving your safety on the road, and there is no denying what it says on your reports. If you’re a good, safe driver, you will get lower premiums. If you aren’t, your report will show you where you are going wrong. Let’s take a look at how telematics can help you cut your car insurance costs.

Young drivers

Young drivers have a tough time of it from insurers, but that shouldn’t be a surprise. Not only are they statistically more likely to have a crash and drive irresponsibly, but they also have far less experience on the road. Yes, driving lessons from a great driving instructor can help. But, it won’t teach you about being on the road for longer periods of time, or driving on the motorway.

If you want to prove your worth to your insurance company, then have telematics installed. It won’t cut your costs straight away – and in some cases it might even raise them! But it will give you a good idea of where you can improve things.

Older drivers

As you get older, there is still a good chance that you will have to make a claim on your insurance. And, when you do, your premiums will be affected. However, if you can prove it wasn’t your fault, then all the blame can be shifted to the other party. It’s situations like these that telematics can help you keep your insurance premiums at the low amount you have worked so hard to keep them at.

Also, when you reach your senior years, insurers may start to take more of an interest in your driving ability. You could see your insurance costs go up unless you have something to prove that they shouldn’t. Enter telematics, once again. It’s a surefire way of telling your insurers you are completely safe on the road. And, that you should be rewarded accordingly.

Businesses

If you have a fleet of cars in your business, then telematics comes highly recommended. It will keep track of your company cars and vehicles and make sure that your drivers are keeping inside of the speed limits. That, in turn, will reduce the likelihood of them being involved in a crash.

Also, the more cars that you have, the greater chance that one of them will be involved in an accident. Again, telematics will be there for you if need to prove to your insurers that your driver did nothing wrong. Don’t forget, without proof, it’s going to be difficult to keep those premiums down.

As you can see, there are plenty of ways that telematics can be useful for you, whether you are a first timer, in the prime of your life, or own a business fleet. Essentially, it gives you the proof that you need to keep your costs low. However, bear in mind that while telematics can help you reduce your costs, if you are found to flaunt the rules, it could end up costing you more. What do you think about telematics?
